(by Etienne Payen) David Linx, her professor at the Brussels Conservatory, considers Sophie to be a vocalist, who remains profoundly a jazz musician, and distinguishes herself by her subtlety and the speed of her reaction. She is a real interpreter, a composer and an author who has understood very well that, before imposing your personal universe, you need to have digested your own past and, above all, possess this desire to tell your own story. As to her personal experiences, this Belgian artist has nothing to shy away from; she spent her youth in Germany, traveled a lot with her parents, studied the piano, had a stay at Berklee, went to Saint Petersburg on several occasions to perform at jazz clubs, until she created the Sophie Tassignon quartet that received the name Zoshia after two years of collaboration. The drummer Nico Manssens, Steven Van Loy the bass, and Christian Claessens the piano player, all graduated from the Conservatoire, rival in dexterity in interpretations of modern jazz, arrangements of Latin-American music, but above all, thanks to their complicity and dynamic attitude, they dedicate themselves entirely to the personal compositions and voice of the young and beautiful Brussels singer. Considering her charisma, her intrinsic qualities and her vocal capacity - which set her inexorably apart from all other singers - Sophie Tassignon and her quartet Zoshia should rapidly find a place within European jazz. It is a challenge, just to show that Sophie's choice was the right one
